During the academic year 2016-2017 a cloud infrastructure (Self VMs) has been launched to offer a virtual server with Linux Operating System for certain courses that students can develop their practice with virtual instances .
The service offers the ability to create, configure, modify, and delete virtual Linux servers to a group of students, with access from the UPC or VPN if we are off the UPC.
Virtual servers are based on a predefined template. Students can install / develop their software on these servers.
Responsible professors for the subjects can request access to it.
Service features include:
- The number of virtual servers provided is determined by the available hardware resources.
- Students are responsible for virtual machines, everything that happens in them and from them.
- Virtual machines do not have backup service.
- At the end of the semester virtual servers will be deleted.
Management software is OpenNebula, and you can access to it from https://virtech.fib.upc.edu
